the First Year Adventures of Chaseton Pollock

This weekend has been full of celebration for our family! On Saturday, we celebrated Chaseton's first birthday! And today is Matt and I's sixth anniversary! We have been surrounded by family and friends and have had such a fun time! For now, Chaseton's birthday recap!

Chaseton had a "Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn" inspired party. I wanted his party to be full of nature, outdoors, and centered around the times of Tom Sawyer. I thought it turned out to be the perfect party for a little boy and I hope Chaseton is just as adventurous as Tom Sawyer!

The invite:

We had Chaseton's party at the perfect location; the Kansas History Museum! It is woodsy and full of nature!

These are two of the picnic tables where our guests sat. The lantern is one that I borrowed from Matt's mom. The jar I found at the recycling center and made my own 'hobo bags' for decoration!

We had a Scavenger Hunt, Potato Sack Races, a picture opp, and a boat building contest!

I found this Scavenger Hunt list on the internet. I stapled it to a plastic baggie and added a pencil.

Potato Sack Races!

A photo opp in front of Tom Sawyer's white-washed fence.

Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn made and floated on log rafts that they made themselves so I thought our guests would enjoy building a boat of their own!

Our supplies for our boat building contest! Everyone loved this part of the party most of all!
I found all of the supplies from items I had at home, from my yard, and from the recycling center.

A birthday banner made from burlap.

The pie table. I made the name cards from paper and sticks.

Instead of cups we used Mason Jars for our drink ware. Placed inside are the handmade napkins that I made. I wanted to use handkerchiefs but it wasn't in my budget so I did what my grandma taught me, I sewed them!

The pies! Instead of cake, I had my mom make pies. We went crazy making pies but everyone loved them! We served peach, pecan, cherry, apple, and blueberry pie, all homemade!

For supper we served fried chicken, corn-on-the-cob, baked beans, biscuits and cornbread with jam and honey, sweet tea, lemonade, and water!

Our birthday boy eating his dinner!

Chaseton's friend, Aria, came to his party!

It was so hot out! I ended up having to take Chaseton down to his diaper because it was just so hot.

All of our guests. Mostly family and a few close friends.

So refreshing on a hot day!

Building, building, building!

My mom and Finlee. They could be twins!

Potato Sack Races.

The little ones wanted a try.

Chaseton loved watching the boats in the creek. He loved hearing everyone clap and he often joined in on cheering and clapping!

Floating the boats.

Chaseton's blueberry pie.

He nibbled on it a little bit but wasn't too interested.

Love these kids!

Chaseton,

I can't believe you are one-year-old! You are the happiest baby and have completed our family so well. Having you as a son is something I will cherish every single day. I hope you know how much we love you and how much joy you bring us every day! Happy birthday, brother bear!

the Color Run

This past Saturday, I participated in a 5k run/walk called the Color Run. As you're running/walking the 5k, you get blasted with color. The color is basically colored cornstarch that tastes really nasty when you get it in your mouth. :) You start out white and end up looking like a brightly colored rainbow!

Charity, Tiffany, Me, and Allison
Allison created our group because she had decided to do it with a few friends. Our group was called Topeka MOPS since most of us know each other from our MOPS group.

Charity and Tiffany ran the race while Allison and I walked it.

Here we go!

This was after our second blast of color. Yellow was first then orange.

After. At the end, they have a huge color party where all of the runners meet and throw their own packet of color into the air!

Tiffany and I. We have become really close this year. She is moving in just a few weeks and I'm really going to miss her!

Another after shot. These pictures don't do justice to the all of the color we had caked on us!

Another before picture. I had a great time hanging out with these ladies! We're already preparing for next year!

Life Lately

Around here, we've been spending all of our evenings and weekends as a family, soaking up the summer! Before Matt graduated, we would be spending our summer traveling to see family and friends as summer usually was our only free time to do so. That's not the case this year! We've been keeping busy around Topeka instead. Jaelyn starts school in August and we're making the best of our time before we begin our first ever school year!

Swimming
The girls love to swim and Chaseton is starting to like it as well. We had a garage sale and decided to put our earnings towards a small pool for our backyard. Its always nice to have a place to take a refreshing dip when its hot outside! Our little fishies have always loved the water.

She was posing!

T-Ball
This is Jaelyn's second year of T-Ball. She is doing great and loves to play!

Matt has been helping out with Jaelyn's team!

Jaelyn's biggest fan...she'll be playing next year!

Sonic Playground

One of our favorite places to go is the Sonic Playground. It has slides and sand and slushies; a few of our favorite things!  And of course, friends!

Baseball

We went to a Topeka Golden Giants baseball game a few Sunday's ago! The girls had a hard time sitting still but it was still fun! Finlee participated in an activity with Matt. She had to run around the bases and tag Matt's hand. Matt then had to eat a 3 inch sub as fast as he could. Whoever did it the fastest won. Finlee was up against two older boys but she still did a great job!

Chaseton
Chaseton is walking now! He'll be celebrating his first birthday in just over two weeks!

Almost One

Chaseton is turning one-year-old in just over a month. (I can't believe it, either.) At our house, we like to go all out for our kids' birthdays so I have already started planning his party. I normally don't post anything until after the party but I couldn't resist posting this picture. Chaseton is having a "First Year Adventures of Chaseton Pollock" (Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn inspired) party. I'm using this picture for his invites.

This could possibly be my most favorite picture of him! I just love it!
